Cult vs Mass audience: A cult film is when the audience are dedicated and passionate fans which leads to repeated viewings and quoting. Kim Kardashian has a cult following of people who are obsessed with her.
Reception Theory- Stuart Hall: Dominant or preferred reading, negotiated reading, Oppositional Reading. Producers encodes messages and audiences decode messages, this is how the audience interpret the text in the way the producers want. This could be preferred reading: Kim K is amazing and being famous is important. Negotiated reading: Not interested/dont like in Kim K or the notion of celebrity but gameplay is addictive. Oppositional: This gives the wrong message: Kim K is promoting that people need to be popular, have lots of money and look a certain way.
